Build Your Own Boat

We offer some students on the Long Course the opportunity to build a boat for themselves as their course project. The choice of design is agreed during the early days of the course.  Selection of which boats will be built is based on meeting the overall training criteria; to enable students to achieve the training objectives.

While students have built bigger boats, the maximum size for 'own boats' is usually 14' or under.  Should you wish to build a bigger boat then workshop space and the type of build will be some of the factors for consideration.

Examples of boats built by students include:
An X One Design, Harrison Butler Prima, a Folkboat, a Herreshoff 12.5, two Eun Maras designed by Iain Oughtred, Marsh Hawk by Antonio Dias, several Howard Chapelle dinghies, Commodore Munro's Sharpie, several Andrew Wolsthenholme dinghies and various canoes.
