We are delighted that the newly formed Lyme Regis Gig Club has commissioned the Boat Building Academy to build their first gig.
Building the first gig for Lyme Regis Gig Club is not only a tremendous honour and opportunity for our staff and students, but also unites the Academy and people of Lyme Regis in a community endeavour; to build a craft to represent the town in the ancient sport of Cornish Pilot Gig Racing.
Our gig build pages give a history of the Cornish Pilot gig, introduce you to the boatbuilders building it here at the Academy and provide a photographic diary showing the progress of the gig through the build. Just follow the links below:

At 1900 on Friday 9th November there is an open meeting at Lyme Regis Power Boat Club. All are welcome. Everyone should meet at the Power Boat Club before starting the evening with a tour of the gig at the Boat Building Academy, after which there is a lecture back at the Power Boat Club by Ralph Bird on the history of Cornish Pilot gigs. After a buffet supper the real business of the evening begins; the submission and discussion of suggested names and colours for the gig. Everyone is looking forward to a lively debate...
