Beale Park Boat Show 2012

Breaking from tradition Beale Park 2012 was darkened by clouds of rain which made a rather muddy, wet and windy start to proceedings.  Saturday and Sunday however all was open for business and everyone enjoyed yet another great weekend by the lake.

Among the Aacademy boats exhibited were Michael Tyler’s downsized Gil Smith catboat ‘Lucie’.  ‘Lucie’ was recently featured in WoodenBoat Magazine’s 2013  ‘Small Boats’ edition in the US.

Michael, after travelling Australia and the Far East in 2009 returned to Devon and started a career in a high street bank as a customer adviser, but his heart belonged to boat building and the Boat Building Academy, where he eventually studied in 2011, graduating in December 2011.  Michael is now Manager and Curator of the Racing and River Boat Museum (RRBM) in Lower Basildon, Reading.  A visit to the museum is highly recommended.

Also on display was Fiona Molloy’s Iain Oughtred designed Tammie Norrie and Derek Thompson’s 14′ Canoe Yawl ‘Mikassy’, designed by George Holmes.
