Charity

The Boat Building Academy was granted charity status (registered charity no. 1187235) in January 2020 – fulfilling a long-held ambition for the business.

The charity is run by Principal Will Reed (also a trustee) and the Board of Trustees.

One of the charitable aims of the BBA is to award bursaries to applicants who would otherwise be unable to fund their training at the Academy.

The bursary scheme aims to help the next generation of men and women to learn the fundamental skills and crafts of boat building and furniture making

Further information about the bursary program can be found here.

The Academy also plans to develop sail training opportunities for young people
