Class of March 2010 Launch Day

After the recent hard frost and gloomy weather, Lyme Regis woke to a gloriously sunny morning on Thursday 9th December. Students, staff, friends, families and onlookers gathered at the Academy before processing the boats down to the harbour.

Commander Tim Gedge, Director of the Academy, said a few words before the boats were launched one by one to the accompaniment of champagne corks popping and friends and families cheering.

Families have been an integral part of the Class of March 2010. Instructor Mike Broome and his wife Liz’s baby Ella was born, Gemma (Administrator) and Joe Blathwayt’s (graduate) baby is in due April, Ross Doherty and wife Liz announced that Liz is pregnant during the last week of the course and on a non-baby note Maria Stiles joined the eight week Woodworking Skills course, Nuh Dan Per’s friend Liz was hugely generous in offering any help needed and Liddy Davidson and Marion Baird were delightful regular visitors.

Last but not least (we will get back to the boats) Matt Cotterill got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend during ‘Nicky Nacky Noo’, his Whitehall skiff’s, first time out. Yvette accepted the beautiful inlaid wooden ring Matt had made and we give heartiest congratulations to them both.

The boats, of course, were stunning.
