Bella Bathurst – Class of September 2014 and January 2015
Bella is a fiction and non-fiction writer and journalist. Her first book The Lighthouse Stevensons (1999) was named one of List Magazine‘s ‘100 Best Scottish Books of All Time’ and won the Somerset Maugham Prize. Her articles have been published in the Guardian, Observer and other national newspapers. She is also a jewellery maker and furniture maker. Bella joined us in September 2014 and loved it so much she decided to do it again, returning in January 2015. We were delighted to make some adjustments to the training programme for her so that Bella, in effect, completed a 6 month course. Bella says re-doing the course was one of the best decisions she ever made. Since leaving the BBA she spends most of her mornings writing and her afternoons making furniture. Between working on individual commissions in her Herefordshire workshop she’s been helping friends on one-off projects, including a cedar-shingled green-oak boathouse. Bella says “I really love the whole process of designing and making something to precisely fit another person’s life.” Find out more on her website – http://bellabathurst.com/furniture/ – or Twitter @BellaBathurst.
