Class of May 2017
After twenty years sat, and stood, in front of a computer screen 3D modelling and animating, James wanted a change. Throw a couple of children into the mix and a break from his career to be a full-time Dad and it seemed like the perfect time to do it. Inspired by friend Ant Mace who was on the 38 week course in March 2015, who spoke highly of the Boat Building Academy, James visited us and went away knowing that the 12 week Woodworking Skills course was the right course for him. James loves contemporary furniture and was delighted that the course offered him a chance to design and make a piece himself as well as learn the skills. He says Instructor Will has given him the ambition to continue to explore and develop his wood working skills and he now aspires to one day to being able to call himself a designer/maker.
After completing the 5 day ‘Basic Woodworking 1‘ short course, Mark decided to join the 12 week Woodworking Skills course. For his project piece he made the first two of a planned set of six dining chairs. Each chair will be made from a different type of wood and, keeping it in the family, the seat fabric is handwoven by his daughter.
