Alan worked for 10 years as a social researcher within the service design sector, before that he wrote for The Independent on Sunday and fashion magazines. Ready for a career change, Alan decided he’d take the leap from evening woodworking classes to a full-time course.
Originally from Hungary, Erika moved to the UK on completion of her master’s degree. Before joining the Academy, she worked as a statistician and cost forecaster for the MoD. After almost ten years sat at a desk, she decided to change career completely and enrolled on the 12-week Fine Woodworking course. Erika is joined at the Academy by her husband Mark, on the 40-week boat building course.
Mariela has a background in architecture and design, she graduated from Universidad Mayor in her native Chile and recently completed the Design + Make course taught at Hooke Park. She joined the course to learn more about traditional woodworking.
Since leaving the Royal Navy after twenty-four years of service, Ray worked as a cargo engineer for BP and later Chevron. His interests include B&W photography, shooting and motorcycling.
